Smart Architectural Planning with CAD Automation and Robotics

The student project aims to develop a prototype for an innovative AI-driven system for Smart Architectural Planning with CAD Automation and Robotics (SAPCAD). This initiative is part of the broader AI-BIM project, which is funded by the EU. AI-BIM focuses on advancing artificial intelligence applications in Building Information Modeling.

The SAPCAD project specifically targets the creation of a system that interprets architectural plans written in an HTML-like CAD language, applies specified changes, and generates updated CAD files. Additionally, potential future applications include translating natural language commands into robotic arm movements.

This project offers an exciting international collaboration opportunity: the German student team (3–4 members) will travel to Romania for one week to work with their Romanian counterparts (2 members), while the Romanian team will also visit Germany for one week. Travel costs are covered, providing an immersive, hands-on experience for both teams including cultural events.

Key Objectives:

  • Develop and train AI models capable of processing and modifying CAD plans.
  • Create a data platform to support process monitoring and visualization.
  • Implement a 3D visualization tool to display updates in a user-friendly interface.
  • Explore ML and DL methods, including Reinforcement Learning, for advanced CAD automation.

Technical Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Python and/or Web Development
  • Knowledge in Machine Learning/LLMs (desired)
  • Willingness to learn new topics
